Boucle
I tried my hand at spinning some boucle yarn. My first attempt was from some instructions I found on the web-not a good choice. I didn't take pictures. Lets just call it "yarn barf". So then I decided to go to my spinning books-which I should have done in the first place. Anyway, I spun up 3 spools of some of the Jacob wool I got from the girl I bought my wheel from. I didn't worry about the lumps and bumps that happened from not carding it well enough cuz I was anxious to get it going. It all went together pretty well, even though I had trouble getting the little loops to look loopy like they're supposed to look. Its far from perfect but I got a good size skein of some very nicely textured yarn that I can't wait to find a project for.

It looks great! I've been told Mohair is the best fiber for boucle. I've tried it a couple of time but just don't slow down enough. I need a quiet afternoon with absolutely no distractions. bahahaha
ReplyDeleteHappy Fiber Arts Friday!
Looks good! I haven't tried boucle yet.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'm always fascinated to read about spinning because it is a skill I don't have.
ReplyDeleteI've only worked with Jacob wool once and I completely loved it. I even suggested to Hubba that we needed some Jacob sheep... lol.
ReplyDeleteI think your yarn looks great!
I'm a new spinner and nowhere near brave enough yet to attempt boucle, so I admire your efforts here very much! I have no doubt you'll find a project where you can use it.
ReplyDeleteI don't spin ... yet. I expect I will at least try it at some point. So, I'm no expert, but your effort looks just fine to me. I can see a hat or a skinny scarf easily coming from your boucle. Maybe we'll see the project in another, random week. :)

Brave spinner, trying a new skill! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome -- I've been spinning for ten years now and have never tried boucle. Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fun! I love seeing new techniques in spinning!
